Birth Tub FAQ

How is the AquaDoula Birth Tub different than an inflatable tub?

The AquaDoula, designed specifically for labor and water birth, is a state-of-the-art, lightweight, modular structure complete with built-in heat, providing a genuine framework of support and warm comfort - unlike inflated air pockets with no reliable structure or warmth.

How much space do we need to set up the Birth Tub?

The AquaDoula requires a level area 5 feet in diameter for setup.

How deep is the Birth Tub and how many people does it hold?

The AquaDoula is 25 inches deep and is 4 feet 6 inches wide, able to accommodate 2 adults.

How do we fill the Birth Tub?

Always fill the AquaDoula from a warm water tap with the handy Faucet Adapter included with every AquaDoula, and your clean garden hose.

How long does it take to fill the Birth Tub?

The time it takes to fill the AquaDoula is approximately 20-30 minutes, but will vary depending on how much warm water is available and the water pressure of the set up location.

How much water does the Birth Tub hold and what does it weigh when full?

Filled to a depth of 18 inches, the AquaDoula holds approximately 150 gallons, and weighs approximately 1,250 lbs.

How do we empty the Birth Tub?

The AquaDoula is easily drained using the AquaDoula Drain Pump in approximately 20-30 minutes.

How often should I change the water in the Birth Tub?

Water quality varies from region to region, so a general recommendation is to replace the water and Disposable Liner after 24 to 72 hours, or sooner depending on the water quality as a result of usage.

How do we heat the Birth Tub?

IMPORTANT: You must fill the AquaDoula with warm water to the desired comfort temperature, approximately 98°F. The AquaDoula’s Heating System is designed to only maintain the water temperature after the AquaDoula is filled to the desired temperature, although with the Thermal Cover in place on the AquaDoula, the water temperature will rise approximately 1°F.
